How often do you deliberately hold back your own opinion in meetings to create space for your team to reach their own conclusion?

Rarely or never, I tend to share my view and let the discussion follow.

Occasionally, it depends on the situation and who's in the room.

Regularly, I try to make that space.

Frequently, this is a regular practice for me.

Which describes you more accurately?

Building deep, personal connections with my team members is more important to me than building perfect processes.

Ensuring everyone has a genuine voice in decisions is more important to me than making sure everyone feels close to me.

Reinterpret the decision through the lens of your team's own vision, finding genuine alignment where it exists.

Be transparent about your reservations with the team and collectively brainstorm how to make the best of the situation.

Implement it decisively - your team needs to see you can execute with discipline even when you disagree. You'll advocate upward separately.

Focus on supporting each individual through the adjustment; acknowledge that it's hard and help people find their footing.

Check in with each person individually first; if the emotional temperature is wrong, then the work won't be right either.

Provide clear direction immediately; ambiguity is the enemy right now, and your team needs certainty to move forward.

Call a focused 30-minute session where everyone lays out their approach, and the group commits to the strongest one together.

Share your vision of the end result and the 'why' behind it, then let people figure out their own path to get there.

Very effective; actions speak louder than words, and personal excellence is the most powerful form of leadership.

Neutral; it depends entirely on the team.

Somewhat effective; it sets a standard, but it doesn't create the team's own capability.

Somewhat ineffective; it can demoralize people and create dependency rather than growth.

Demonstrate the standard yourself by doing it alongside them; showing is more powerful than telling.

Have a developmental conversation; explore what happened, identify the gap, and co-create the plan to build the missing skill.

Give clear, specific, and timely feedback about what needs to change - people deserve to know where they stand.

Reframe the work within the bigger mission; help them see how even this task connects to something that matters.

Articulate a clear compelling picture of where the organization is headed and why this change creates exciting new possibilities.

Use this as a growth catalyst; help each person identify how the restructuring opens development opportunities they didn't have before.

Involve the team in deciding how the change will be implemented; shared ownership of the process reduces anxiety.

Make sure every person feels personally supported; schedule one-on-ones, acknowledge the difficulty, and listen.

Use this as a teaching moment - walk them through the thinking process, even if it means the deliverable isn't perfect tomorrow.

Take over the critical parts yourself and give them clear, specific instructions for the rest - protect the deadline and debrief later.

Advocate passionately for your vision - if you truly believe it's right, it's your job to inspire people to see what you see.

Let the team's collective judgement guide the decision; you might be wrong, and buy-in matters more than being right.

Only when a team member brings it up.

Periodically, when I sense someone needs it.

Consistently, I schedule these regularly.
